CurlEnvy: Natural Hair Spottings at the Howard Homecoming Tailgate

Ok, so first I must admit…no, I did not go to Howard University.

However, I do know a ton of lovely people who attend or once attended the school that you will often hear referred to as the Mecca of historically Black colleges. Since I enjoy playing my role as an Honorary HU Alum, I tagged along with my friends to the tailgate for the football game (Howard won over NC A&T, 35-28!!!).

I can always expect a good time when I get with my Howard folks, but what was really grabbing my attention was how many people had natural hairstyles. While we were all enjoying food hot off the grill, good fellowship & of course, a few libations, I asked a few people (guys, included!) if they minded me taking a pic of them proudly rockin’ their kinks. May the Natural Hair gods smile upon their gorgeous heads:

    Very nice!! I always get nervous when I want to ask people to take a pic of there hair..guess its time for me to (wo)man up! You captured some great styles!

    Part of my inspiration for going natural came from my time as a student at HU. Being completely surrounded by so many examples of natural beauty was exactly what I needed.
