If you plan on kidnapping me and keeping me captive on an abandoned island…please leave me a jar of coconut oil. Thanks.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE coconut oil. It has so many awesome uses and my entire body loves it! I don’t have a specific brand that I use, but I shoot for organic coconut oil. At room temperature, coconut oil may be solid but it becomes liquid once warmed.

I just tweeted about my love for coconut oil and a few people were interested in knowing a little bit more about how I use the stuff. Cool. Here goes:

ONE. Hair

Coconut oil is my go-to sealant. After using my leave-in conditioner, I distribute some CO through my hair to seal in all of the moisture. I use it on my scalp sometime too or on my edges when they need a little love. Sometimes I add a little to my deep conditioners for more conditioning power. I’m positive that this is my favorite oil of all of the ones I have tried.

TWO. Skin

Every time I find a coconut oil-based skin care product (body scrubs, body butters, etc.), I GOT TO HAVE IT! If you’re a mixtress, I recommend coconut oil as your oil of choice when making your whipped shea butters, scrubs and other skin products. It leaves my skin super soft and smooth and moisturized. (Check out my review of Gray’s Apothecary for great coconut oil-base products!)

THREE. Lips

I don’t remember what made me do it…I think my lips were dry and I didn’t feel like getting up to search for Chapstick. However, there was a jar of coconut oil within reach so I popped it open and smoothed a little on my lips. I figured if ppl can use something as heavy as Vaseline on their lips, then coconut oil should be perfectly fine. Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed my lips have NEVER been this soft! Just once a day works as a nice conditioning treatment for those puckers.

FOUR. Nails

I got this idea from HeyFranHey. She uses the coconut oil on her cuticles and her nails look amazing! I have always had BLEH-looking nails so I jumped on this. In fact, HeyFranHey is doing a month-long challenge on her blog that includes using coconut oil to improve the health of your nails. I’ll be taking note of how my nails grow now that I’m bathing them in CO all of the time.

FIVE. Teeth/Gums

Afrobella wrote a post on oil pulling and because I’m a curious cat, I just had to try it. Oil pulling is simply swishing around oil in your mouth like you would mouthwash for 10-20 minutes. I find it to be soothing to my gums and my teeth have been looking whiter. I’ve been doing it a couple times a week for about three or four months now.

Now there is one way I have not used coconut oil, which is funny because I buy it from the grocery store…and that is for cooking! I plan on doing some more research as far as its nutritional value so that I don’t mess up any of my clean eating goals. I have also got some great meals suggestions to cook with coconut oil from my Twitter fam . I will check back in to update you all on how that goes!

Do you share my love of coconut oil? How do you like to use it? Any suggestions for new ways to use coconut oil? Let me know below!

Love coconut oil! Hair, skin, nails, lips and cooking! I tried oil pulling with sesame oil, which is the most recommended oil, but the taste was too much. I should try coconut oil.

I cook with coconut oil all the time. I use it just like I would other oils. According to my Aunt, coconut oil is actually the best oil to cook with as it has the ability to withstand higher temperatures and still retain all of its goodness. She also recommends eating it straight from the jar but I haven’t tried that yet.
