Nailed It!: The Essie “Stronger” Nail Care Line for Weak, Splitting Nails

I’m going to be honest and admit that I’ve been slipping up with my nail care.

Those lovely coconut oil rubs I was doing on my cuticles, using base coats religiously and filing/cutting my nails in the proper direction? Definitely wasn’t sticking with it. As a result, my nails have been splitting TERRIBLY. It was becoming a vicious cycle of me peeling off chipped parts of my nail which just made the breakage worse so I’d pick and peel some more and they’d split some more and…yeah. I had to do something because jacked up nails can really ruin the look of that awesome new polish you’re trying out.20140130-005355.jpg

I usually stand firm by my Sally Hansen Hard As Nails treatment, but it wasn’t really holding me down so I decided to try out some Essie nail care products I’ve had my eye on. Essie has a couple different nail care lines for various nail needs, but I chose the “Stronger” line designed to “nourish and support thin, weak or splitting nails with rock solid solutions.” Bam. Sounded like just what I was looking for. The Essie “Stronger” nail care line includes the Millionails treatment and Grow Stronger base coat.

More info from Essie:

Millionails ($10 msrp)
“bulletproof nails. fortified with iron, amino acids and kevlar, each bottle contains 1 million fast acting molecules to help resist peeling and splitting for visibly stronger nails.”

Grow Stronger ($8.50 msrp)
“get a fresh start. add strength, durability and superior protection against chipping. this fast drying, glossy finish formula helps put an end to breakage.”

The first time I used the products, I used two coats of the Millionails and one of the base coat. I changed my mind about using a color on top because the clear polish looked so good! It looks like a fresh clear gel mani so I let my nails be. No noticeable chips appeared until 4 or 5 days later! And they weren’t even bad chips–I’m just OCD about my nails and see every little imperfection. Another coat of base coat just to freshen up my mani and I could have continued with my simple look.20140130-005150.jpg

Now if I plan on using color, I usually go with just one coat of Millionails. I don’t want to have 10 layers of polish on my nails because it will take forever to completely dry.

It’s been over two weeks and my nails have been chipping less, if at all, so I am thrilled with the results. Essie’s “Stronger” line is definitely a keeper!

What nail strengthening treatments are you a fan of? Let me know because I am def in search of some miracle workers!
