One of the most entertaining things about late night TV is the commercials for random products that you want to deny are real because they can be so comical.
Last night I saw a commercial for Air Curlers and exclaimed with a resounding “SHUT THE %#$& UP!!!!” when I realized what they were advertising. The Air Curler is an attachment for your blow dryer that whips the hair in a tornado motion similar to a cotton candy machine in order to give you light, fluffy spiral curls.
You’re supposed to lightly mist only the ends of your hair while leaving the roots dry and then the Air Curler both dries your hair while giving you your curls. In the commercial, all of the models had very long straight hair so I wonder what would happen to natural hair.
I’m sure this sounds crazy to you so I will just drop the video and let you see for yourself:
Don’t look at me like that. I know.
I did see a video on the Air Curler website of a Black news reporter covering this Air Curler contraption and at the end she does try it on her hair…but I’m not convinced. Also, I’m positive she did not dampen her hair before putting it into the Air Curler. I really don’t think that would have gone well. I’m also not sure about how long the curls will last either. My blow outs poof up almost instantly so I can’t imagine this would go too much differently. It just looks like you’d be asking for a tangled mess to use this anyway. I’ll stick with curling irons!
Would you try the Air Curler? Does it seem ridiculous to you or do you think it could work? Would it get results on relaxed hair?
