Hi Jess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the deal: Everybody swears that shea butter is so amazing but my hair hates it. It is too thick for my hair and weighs it down. I get a lot of build up, too. Am I doing something wrong? I try using it in my braid-outs and as a sealant and nothing really works. Everyone likes shea butter, but me!

Hey Anaiya,

You have NOTHING to worry about. I promise. I’m sure there are plenty of other people who aren’t big fans of putting shea butter in their hair so don’t feel like a freak of nature lol! Sometimes we feel that we have to fit into the natural hair trends, but we need to just focus on using what works for us!

Now if you still don’t want to give up on shea butter, there are other options. I can admit that I had some issues with shea butter at first. I have thick hair, but fine strands so the shea butter would weigh my hair down like it does yours. (I even wrote a post expressing my frustrations here!) I have found that my hair loves whipped shea butter. You’re right–shea butter can be a little heavy, but when it is “whipped” or cut with other oils it breaks it up so that it is a little bit lighter for your hair AND your skin! Some people mix their shea butter with aloe vera gel for more hold. You could also just try products that use shea butter as a base ingredients like Shea Radiance or Shea Moisture products. My hair LOVES products from both lines.

Good luck!
